It is November 5th and you are living in New York City. In this project, you will slip on your headphones and put on a different persona. You are not listening to someone else bringing you through their day, you are going through YOUR day. Your character is one of the thirteen random people who make up this project and wholly exist in your world.
To perform in this project, all characters (i.e. you all) must sit in their designated seats facing the center. Once sitting down, you must close your eyes until you are given the auditory instructions to open them. Your dialogue will be a mixture of inner and verbal chatter. You will be asked to repeat the lines out loud that start with the phrase, “AND YOU REPEAT…” You will be requested, somewhere into the middle of the piece, to improvise your lines. By then, you should have a well enough understanding of your backstory and current plans for the day.
This project addresses the hectic nature of our lives and the miscommunication, or lack of communication that results from this chaos. Our set routines often cause us to put blinders up and disconnect from the world around us... Walk faster. It’s a race against the clock. No eye contact. I don’t have time for that… Making time to meet up with friends, relax at the park, get lunch with the cute girl at the cafe, or even make polite conversation with the person sitting next to you can impact the world around you and the quality of your life.
